The following information was written by my [Jennifer Osborn] Great Aunt, Margaret "Peggy" Carson Shiebe, in January 1987.

George Martin II was born 27 June 1831 at Wressel, Yorkshire County, England. He was christened 17 July 1831 at Wressell. In the spring of 1832, he left England with his parents, George Martin I and Mary Shepherd, for the Dominion of Canada, the voyage taking 14 weeks. They settled northeast of the present city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Rebecca Pangman was born 27 September 1834 in the area of Scott Township, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were Sterling and Jane (Mills) Pangman.

George II and Rebecca were married in Scott Township, Ontario, Canada on 24 August 1852, according to the Huron County Michigan Album of 1884, but the Census of 1851 of Ontario, Canada shows otherwise:

1851 Census, Scott Township, Ontario (District 7):

    21. Martin, George, occupation -- yeoman or farmer, born England; religion -- Church of England; next birthday -- 22

    22. Martin, Rebecca, born -- Canada; religion -- Church of England; next birthday -- 18

    23. Martin, Jane, born -- Canada; religion -- Church of England; next birthday -- 1

1851 shows George and Rebecca Martin living on north half of Concession 5, Lot 33 in Scott Township.

The first of four children of George and Rebecca were born in Scott Township, Ontario. Her name was Jane and she was born on 31 May 1851. Harriet was born on 9 April 1853, George was born on 4 November 1854 and William was born on 2 October 1856.
