City of New Amsterdam, 1660

The month after Samuel Hyde was born, after the Dutch move out of New Amsterdam, the English rename the territory New York.

Samuel Hyde
(1665-1742)

Samuel Hyde is the fifth great grandfather of Rachel Wilcox Liberacki.

During May 1665, Samuel Hyde was born in Norwich, Connecticut. In some records, his last name is also spelled "Hide."

On 10 December 1690, he married Elizabeth Calkins in Lebanon, Connecticut. I am not clear whether he moved to Lebanon before or after his marriage.

The Connecticut Town Death Records, pre-1870 list that Samuel was a Lieutenant. However, I have been unable to find record of his service. It is possible that the source is confusing Samuel with his son who is also named Samuel.

Samuel died in Lebanon on 6 June 1742 and is buried Trumbull Cemetery.1

1I have one source that lists Samuel's date of death as June 1742. However, I do not find this to be as credible as the other sources.
