From the 1867 Mecklenburg-Schwerin Census, we know that Sophia Katie Gielow was born in 1839 and that in 1867 he was living in Basepohl, Demmin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

The year that Sophia was born, saw the coronation of Queen Victoria, the invention of Morse Code, and the first photographs taken by Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre.
