The panic of 1873 was not caused by the birth of our relative Maria Brunhofer. Instead real estate speculation and other economic issues, set off a depression that would last until 1877.

Maria Brunhofer
(1873-1963)

Maria Brunhofer is the grand aunt of Mary, William, David, and Missy Brunhofer. She is also the sister of Karl Brunhofer.

We know little about Maria Brunhofer.

However, the year she was born was important musically. Sergei Rachmaninoff and Enrico Caruso were born. Ivan the Terrible, the Rimsky-Korsakov opera, was performed in St Petersburg, Russia.

In the United States, the failure of Jay Cooke and Company marked the beginning of the Panic of 1873 during which the New York Stock Exchange closed for 10 days, factories closed, and other economic tensions developed.
