Elizabeth Breathour was born in West Canada in January 1842.1 In 1852, she and her family were living in Scott, Ontario which was part of what was known as Upper or West Canada. The family's religion was "English Church." In 1861, they were still living in Scott, but their religion was listed as Wesleyan Methodists.

Elizabeth married Thomas Martin on 25 May 1864 in Ontario, Canada. In either 1866 or 18672, the family emigrated to the United States. By 1870, she was living in Verona township which is located in Huron county, Michigan. She and her husband kept a hotel. In 1880, her occupation was "keeping house." She would remain in Verona the rest of her life.

By 1900. Elizabeth had given birth to six children of whom four were still living. She was also able to read, write, and speak English.

Elizabeth died of pneumonia on 20 April 1916.
