John Mudge

(II) John Mudge,1 son of Thomas Mudge, was born in 1654 and died October 29, 1733. He was a farmer in Malden. He served in King Philip's war in 1675 in Captain Moseley's company. His name appears in the list of soldiers of the Dedham company and he was one of the Narragansett grantees, survivors of King Philip's war, who had land grants, April 26, 1733. His will was dated April 15, 1726. He was elected constable of Malden, March 14, 1692, was tything man, highway surveyor, fence viewer, a citizen of high standing. He married, in 1684, Ruth Burdett, born May, 1666, died October 17, 1733, daughter of Robert and Hannah Burdett, of Malden. A double headstone marks the graves of John and Ruth Mudge. Children: John, born October 15, 1685, died December 21, 1685; John, mentioned below; Martha, born December 25, 1691.
